It was originally built as a hermitage by the Salesians and opened in 1886 during San Juan Bosco’s visit to Barcelona. Construction of the Temple of the Sacred Heart, designed by Enric Sagnier, started in 1902 and finished in 1961. It is a neo-gothic style monument, crowned by a bronze statue of the Sacred Heart.

The top of the temple, at 575m above sea level, can be reached by lift and offers fantastic views over Barcelona.
