The Fisidabo project has been awarded the 2024 National Research Prize, in the Scientific Communication category, granted by the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation (FCRI) and the Generalitat de Catalunya. It is a joint initiative of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) and BSM that was born in the Tibidabo Amusement Park with the aim of bringing physics and other scientific disciplines closer to the younger generations.

The management team of the Tibidabo Amusement Park and BSM have received the award, which highlights both research activity and scientific communication and dissemination initiatives, scientific sponsorship and public and private cooperation in R&I projects in Catalonia.

Tibidabo

Fisidabo, an example of a STEAM learning model

Fisidabo was born in 2012 as a result of a collaboration between BSM and the Physics Engineering degree of the Barcelona School of Telecommunications Engineering (ETSETB) of the UPC. The initiative merges the learning of scientific and technical knowledge with entertainment, taking advantage of the recreational environment of an emblematic space such as the Tibidabo Amusement Park.

Currently, Fisidabo is part of the BSM and UPC STEAM educational program to encourage scientific vocations in a fun way and with academic rigor among primary, secondary and high school students, and especially among girls.

Fisidabo also has training sessions aimed at teachers, in which around 50 teachers from all over Catalonia participate each year and who, since this academic year, have already received the quality seal of the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Institute of Education Sciences (ICE) of the UPC.

Tibidabo

More than 36,000 students and an investment of €1.2 million

The success of Fisidabo led BSM and the UPC to expand the STEAM sessions beyond Tibidabo Amusement Park. In 2019, the Olympic Ring and the Forum Park were added; in 2022, the Barcelona Zoo; and from 2023, Park Güell will also have its own STEAM day.

Five emblematic spaces in Barcelona that, once a year, are transformed into science laboratories with the purpose of working on scientific curricular skills from a different point of view and thus helping to awaken scientific vocations among young people.

Since its launch in 2012, more than 36,000 students have participated in the STEAM conferences organized by BSM and the UPC. An initiative that has had an investment of almost €1.2 million by BSM.
